BRIEF HISTORY OF TUBAE

TURKANA BIO ALOE ORGANIZATION (TUBAE)

Is a Community initiative based in Turkana County that draws its mandate from Article 43 of COK 2010 (Economic Social Rights), Article 174-176(The Object,Principle and County Goverments Composition in reference to the Decentralized roles of its services efficiently and practicably) and the Entire Chapter 6 of Leadership and Integrity. Our programmming since(8th September 2006) in Section has been informed by Citizen engagement at three levels of Government(Ward, Subcounty & County) and creation of an enabling envirorment stakeholders in the County and the Inter-counties(West-Pokot, Elgey-Marakwet, baringo and Samburu) with focus to Social Accountability Human Rights Intervention (Women/girl child, youth, people with disability, minority ethnic groups) and Skill development on rare skills in the society
The core mandate for its formation was to exploit and conserve the endangered Aloe species (Echuchuka),found in Turkana County, through artificial propagation, value addition and marketing of dry land products to alleviate poverty. Since 2006, TUBAE successfully patented their members locally processed products as " Echuchuka" with Kenya Industrial Property Institute (KIPI) and certified by Kenya Bureau of Standard (KBS). This was the first community initiative to own a collective Trade Mark (An Intellectual Property-IP) in Kenya aimed at addressing vulnerability among women and youth groups in Turkana County. With emerging issues in 2010 TUBAE adopted new thematic areas in fulfillment of community needs namely;- Devolution and Governance, Human Rights & Access to Justice and Media Advocacy in addition to the Social development program.

Amplify citizens ' voices by promoting justice, economic opportunity and human dignity in adherence to the rule of law through active citizen engagement in entire public expenditure management (PEM) cycle.

Goal:

To have a citizen with knowledge in human rights, social accountability and legal procedures towards creating an equitable, just environment for human dignity and development.

TUBAE exist to engage, protect, respect and fulfil the rights of underprivileged groups and specifically to:

Corruption

Is a form of dishonest or criminal offense undertaken by a person or organization entrusted with a position of authority, to acquire illicit benefit or abuse power for one’s private gain.

Corruption can occur on different scales;-

1. Drug trafficking,

3. Abuse of office by office holders- Integrity issues (e.g. Employee of government being service providers again),
