TUBAE- African Development Trust

Turkana Bio Aloe Organization (TUBAE) is a community based organization registered with the Department of Gender and Social development on 8th Sept, 2006 Registration No. 2550 and on 13th September, 2012 was registered as a Trust thus still waiting its certification which usually takes 3-5 years process.

The current name is TUBAE- African Development Trust. We are an umbrella for 48 member organizations determined to protect and champion for natural resource management in Turkana County. TUBAE promotes diversifications of livelihoods in its advocacy strategies to address poverty levels and communities’ disparateness in socio –economical entitlements. TUBAE has attracted support from its beneficiaries, area leadership, provincial administration, Turkana County Government, international organizations operating in the County and other civil society organizations drawn Marsabit, North Horr Constituency, Keiyo Marakwet and West Pokot Counties.

As part of the continuation process of the existing programmes, TUBAE endeavours to advocate, lobby, build capacities and support vulnerable groups on sustainable exploitation and conservation of endangered environment. This is done in accordance to ratified conventions on environment conservation that acknowledge artificial propagation, value addition and markets access for dry land products. The organization is running six programmes of which three (3) are funded and the remaining three (3) not funded.

TUBAE is well known in its strategic environmental conservation campaigns and this has earned the organization good name in the entire County. We hope to apply the same in the newly introduced Poverty reduction, Governance and Peace building programme impelled by the needs vulnerable communities. Some of these programs especially the Peace building one are crucial because of rampant insecurity and laxity by the government apparatus to protect people and their property as per the Law. TUBAE funded and ongoing programs include Governance & Accountability, Human rights & Justice, Natural resource management & Civic education. Other “off” and “on” programs are civic and voter educations during elections of 2002, 2007 and 2012. TUBAE also participated in 2005 referendum on the constitution.

In achieving its intended goal, TUBAE has been working closely with national government departments (before devolution) and it works with County Government ministries, faith based organizations and other Civil societies operating in Turkana County in order to speed up the result based approaches to environmental conservation and poverty eradication.
